As a child, Angela K. Nickerson daydreamed about being able to cut bouquets of flowers just like Anne Shirley and the other characters in her favorite books. But like so many other children, she had a lawn – fun for playing soccer on sometimes, but devoid of much else. So she daydreamed of having a home surrounded by flowers and orchards of apple trees, filled with singing birds and butterflies and ladybugs. She dreamed of reading under a tree on a warm afternoon, eating apples and devouring books. She dreamed of picking huge bouquets and filling her home with flowers.
As a grown up, Angela's dreams aren't all that much different, actually. But faced with the declining populations of fireflies and Monarch butterflies and songbirds, she realized that her dream was actually part of a solution: a hyperlocal solution to a much larger climate change problem. So, girded with science-based gardening knowledge and guided by the wisdom of the likes of Doug Tallamy, Monty Don, Piet Oudolf, and Sarah Raven, she set out to cultivate that dream garden – and to inspire others to do the same.
Angela leads a WILD REVIVAL – a rebellion against the lawn as a default construct, a rejection of the same old landscaping schemes, and an embrace of abundant, thriving ecosystems. This WILD REVIVAL transforms outdoor spaces into living spaces and redefines the American idea of going out into nature. Nature exists all around us – we just have to make room for it, acknowledge it, and embrace it. And transforming our yards and patios and balconies into gardens makes connecting with nature easy. This is a WILD REVIVAL!
At WILD REVIVAL Angela writes about her successes and failures as a gardener. She teaches, answers questions, shares project advice, and makes recommendations. And she advocates for changes that support wildlife, ensure food security, promote clean air and water, and make gardens waterwise while saving money, too. She is a passionate advocate for native species while also delighting in dahlias. She grows some plants from seed and buys starts for others, always acknowledging that gardening comes in many, many forms. And fundamentally, Angela advocates for conservation – using fewer resources for the greater good. This is a WILD REVIVAL!
In addition to creating WILD REVIVAL, as a writer and content creator, Angela has written for glossy magazines and publications like Apartment Therapy as well as creating content for brands including Botanical Interests, Lowe's, Speakman, Toja Grid, Tanzite Decking, and Epic Gardening. She has also been a featured columnist in local newspapers and online publications and is the author of two books. She is a frequent public speaker and guest of book and gardening clubs alike.
"I hope this WILD REVIVAL invites you into a new era of gardening. In embracing our outdoor spaces and transforming them, we gain a new perspective. There is joy in bugs and bees and birds – a joy which inspires a love for every living thing, a joy which can change the world, if we allow it."
