LOVE THIS! You've articulated the issue so well. Down with anti-intellectualism! I've always loved etymology, plus am a biologist as well as a gardener, so scientific names just make so much sense and they should not be seen as elitist. I love my "Dictionary of Word Roots and Combining Forms" that I got in university a million years ago. Thanks for taking the time to write this out so thoughtfully.
Oh, I am glad this resonated with you!! I am soooo tired of the anti-intellectualism and anti-science nonsense!! Embrace our nerdiness and use that Latin!! ❤️❤️❤️
Great article! Being familiar with a Latin name has kept me from mistakenly buying the wrong plant! It's a learning process.
Thanks for reading!! Those Latin names have saved me, too. Many times!

I loved this and am saving it to discuss the topic with my Latin classes next semester. :)
That will be such an interesting conversation! High school Latin?
Yes! I always love a chance to show real world applications of the language.
Fabulous!! If you ever want a zoom speaker to chat with them on this topic, hit me up! I am a former HS English teacher. Love teens!!
